Our colleges and universities have become infectious breeding grounds of the left, fattening their tills as the students are yoked to untenable loans to pay for often useless educations they provide. The federal government encourages this bubble, undermines free speech and due process on campus by regulation and encourages young people to enslave themselves in this way.
When officers from York Regional Police’s Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Bureau paid a visit to the Chabad @ Flamingo Synagogue in Thornhill, Ontario to discourage the synagogue’s rabbi from hosting an event with Jewish author and activist Pamela Geller, all they had to do was threaten his job before he pulled the plug on the event.
A severe blow for the freedom of speech, and victory for the advance of Sharia blasphemy laws here. “Michigan Federal Judge Allows Muslim Violence to Suppress Christian Speech; Immediate Appeal Filed,” from the American Freedom Law Center.
The behaviour of a Muslim officer with the York Regional Police has, it seems, not only embarrassed the department, but also offended at least some in the Muslim community.
YRP Insp. Ricky Veerappan, who’s in charge of the force’s so-called diversity, equity and inclusion bureau (who dreams up this ridiculous agencies and their self-righteous titles?) apparently didn’t like the idea of a department chaplain, Rabbi Mendel Kaplan, inviting controversial American commentator Pamela Geller to address a local synagogue.
The bottom line is that there is a dedicated political strategy within radical Islam to smear critics of Jihadi violence as “discriminatory,” proclaim offense at “hate speech,” and label scholarship and teaching about human rights abuse and mass murder of Christians, for example, throughout Araby and the Middle East, as “Islamophobic.”
Full disclosure — I’m a pro-life supporter. I’m not overly supportive of some pro-life demonstrators using signs of aborted fetuses to get their point across, however, I believe in free speech, and everyone’s equal right to it.
Free speech can be tough to tolerate sometimes, but as long as the law isn’t broken, violence isn’t threatened, and assaults don’t ensue, I’m for it.
I know a vast majority of pro-choice people would never assault anyone, but we all must encourage free speech.

Dhaka: A blogger who had been critical of Bangladesh’s Islamist groups was killed in the capital late on Friday, police said, a day after he attended a big rally against leaders of the country’s largest Islamic party.
Protests championed by the country’s bloggers have seen thousands of people take to the streets demanding the execution of leaders of the Jamaat-e-Islami party who are under trial for war crimes.
Clashes between police and Islamist protesters demanding the trials be halted have also rocked the capital.
Police found the body of Ahmed Rajib, 35 — better known by his online identity Thaba Baba — near his home in Dhaka’s Pallabi suburb, with his head hacked apart with a machete.
A Cairo court on Saturday ordered the government to block access to the video-sharing website YouTube for 30 days for carrying an anti-Islam film, but the ruling can be appealed and based on precedent may not be enforced.
Judge Hassouna Tawfiq ordered YouTube blocked for carrying the film, which he described as “offensive to Islam and the Prophet (Muhammad).” He made the ruling in the Egyptian capital where the first protests against the film erupted last September before spreading to more than 20 countries, killing more than 50 people.
