Foreign Affairs Minister John Baird left no doubt Saturday that Canada and Palestinian leaders remained far apart on a number of issues, but after a series of meetings in Ramallah, he assured the region that working toward progress was a common goal.

Actually, he pretended that they have already done that. He spent his time hectoring the only side that really wants peace as if it were the only obstacle to that peace, and called upon it to take steps that would seriously imperil its survival.
The core premise of the president’s address was that if Israel only pushes harder for reconciliation, regional hostility will gradually melt. Israelis are thoroughly divided on that, and he was at rhetorical best in trying to move them.
OTTAWA — The Canadian Union of Postal Workers has walked into a new controversy after writing in its March newsletter that Canada “plays a key part in perpetuating war crimes” by Israel.
“Canada is allowing Israel to terrorize occupied people, breach international law, normalize home demolitions, build prison-style walls and checkpoints, and steal resources,” said CUPW in the newsletter.
Saeb Erekat – Chief Palestinian negotiator and nitwit
Saeb Erekat, the chief Palestinian negotiator, said Canada’s decision to send Foreign Affairs Minister John Baird to vote and speak at the UN and the threats of reprisal measures have cast the Harper government as too extreme and partisan to play a role in the region. Voting against the resolution is one thing, he said, but Canada’s approach is another.

True colours: Israelis show grace — and determination — under fire
The Facebook page for Fatah in Lebanon has posted this picture of a mother dressing her young son with a suicide belt. Palestinian Media Watch has documented the ongoing glorification of violence and Martyrdomby the PA. This picture was posted on the Fatah Facebook page together with an imaginary conversation between the son who is being sent to his death and the mother encouraging it. “Why me and not you?” the child innocently asks his mother, who answers that she will continue to have more children “for the sake of Palestine”:
“My mother dressed me in a strange belt (i.e., a suicide belt). I asked her: ‘What is this, mother?’ She said: ‘I will put it on you and you will go to your death!’ I said to her: ‘Mother, what have I done that you want me to die?’ She shed a tear that hurt my heart and said: ‘The homeland needs you, son. Go and blow up the sons of Zion.’ I said to her: ‘Why me and not you?’ She said: ‘I will stay in order to give birth to more children for the sake of Palestine.’ I kissed her hand and said to her: ‘Keep it up, mother, for you and for Palestine I will kill the impure and the damned.”
The Facebook page states that it is “the official page of Fatah’s Information and Culture Commission in Lebanon,” and is linked to from the official website of the Fatah Information and Culture Commission (www.fatehmedia.ps).
